The pump from a boiler creates pressure which forces the water up the pipe. If you have a low pressure shower, that spends more time crying on you rather than washing you, your pipework may require an additional pump to increase the water pressure.

Pipes are like big straws. Pretend you have a straw and you want to blow bubbles in your drink. You have to blow pretty hard sometimes to make the air go down into the drink and out of the straw. With water in pipes it’s pretty much the same. There’s a big pump far away that is pushing the water into the pipes just like you blowing air into the straw. It’s strong enough to push the water all the way through the pipes and out of the shower on the other end.
