There really isn’t any strong evidence that they work at all. If they do work, it’s by stimulating specific structures in the skin that have rejuvenating effects. Each color of light has a specific wavelength; red has the longest and violet the shortest. These wavelengths determine exactly what structures they can interact with, kind of like a lock and key. Shorter wavelengths can also penetrate barriers (like your skin) deeper than longer wavelengths.
