Our cells are designed to burn specific types of things for fuel. Sugars are an easy one, for example. At one point, energy rich foods were hard to come by so our cells would store a bunch of the energy compounds in our fat cells to burn later if we couldnt find more.
These days, energy rich foods are everywhere but our cells never got the memo. We keep eating sugary things and our cells, assuming its still millions of years ago, pack it away for later just in case. When it runs out of ft cells to stuff, our body makes more little fat cell boxes for all this sugar we keep eating. Over time, that adds up!
So basically, our bodies are really good at storing food it doesn’t need anymore for a later that it never sees.
