how do we know other species visible spectrums?

Its inferred by the types of and numbers of Chromophores in their eyes like dogs only have blue and yellow chromophores so they see 2 tone like black and white ( even though technically the see yellow and blue. Basically you have to have the right structures to see each spectrum
