How does that one small piece of the bike keep the entire bike up?

In addition to the two tires, it serves as the third leg. When you think about it, a tripod type support is extremely stable. So long as the material of the leg is sufficient to support whatever weight it needs to, the three-legged structure will hold just fine.

Metal is really rigid and most bicycles are made of light materials such as aluminium or even carbon so it actually doesn’t take that much force to hold up the bicycle.
