One thing nobody has mentioned yet is that governments don’t just pay or encourage private companies to employ more people, they also employ people directly. Each extra government official, police officer, soldier, doctor, nurse, care worker, street cleaner, teacher, etc. employed in the public sector is a job ‘created’ by the government.
