And how does that differ from a supercharger?
A turbo (turbocharger) compresses air which enables more air to enter the engine cylinders. As there is more air in the cylinder, when they are compressed the oxygen molecules are packed closer together. There can now be more fuel added which means that they can burn more fuel which results in a higher output from the engine.
