Bacteria has membranes on the outside like we humans have skins. Alcohol dissolves that membrane. Basically skinning bacteria alive.

Bacteria have a membrane like your skin. Alcohol essentially skins it alive by dissolving it.

Alcohols have a tendency to love both fat and water. When alcohol comes in contact with bacteria, it forms bonds with the fat and water layers, breaking the bacteria’s protective layer. This causes the important parts of the bacteria to be exposed and dissolve in the alcohol. This kills the bacteria.
