How does an auto company like GM just start making ventilators within weeks?

And what do they look like?

Factories are full of machines, presses, and all sorts of automated processes, let alone the actual logistics of the production floor, sourcing the parts and materials, and TRAINING technicians to build, test, etc, etc, etc.

How can a company just produce a new product, unrelated to any of their other products, IN A SPAN OF A FEW WEEKS????

There is a nice video of the GM Ventilator factory. It’s a lab workspace. GM was making parts for Ventec before, motors and plastics. They have just made a big assembly room with bins of those parts, and the other Ventec parts that they don’t make. Then they took a bunch of their skilled UAW workers and showed them how to assemble ventilators. It’s people, with screwdrivers, not automated robots assembling these things. They are making like 30 per day, not 5000 a day.

[Here’s a video about the tesla ventilator ](https://youtu.be/zZbDg24dfN0).

One thing they’ve done is to use tesla car parts and systems as much as possible.
