Discernment is about observation, the ability to tell one thing from another, even when they are very similar.

Discretion is about judgment, knowing when to share things others don’t know, and especially knowing when not to. It can also refer to delegation, letting someone explicitly that they have the authority to make a decision.

A discerning person might pick up on the evidence their boss is having an affair. A discrete person would keep that to themselves.
