How does mercury get absorbed through the skin even though any other liquid doesn’t?

Mostly when you get poisoned by mercury is because you inhaled some of it, as far as I know.

It can’t really get through your skin. However, if you have any laceration or opening, as small as they may seem, you’ll have big problems if you touch mercury. That’s why it’s recommended to not come in contact with it. We always have some small cuts that we’re not aware of.

And the same goes for other liquids. They don’t really get absorbed through your skin.

It doesn’t unless there is a lot of it on open pores. It normally has to be ingested. This knowledge was bestowed upon me by my year 7 science teacher who dipped his fingers in mercury and then licked them. He also burnt a hole through a table in the maths department with some low ph acid

All liquid can get absorbed by your skin. Your skin is porous, it will by nature absorb whatever you put on it. Why do you think your hands get wrinkled and soft when they sit in water for too long? Or why nicotine patches can be put on your arm to give you a dose? The skin is absorbing them. Same goes for sunscreen, deodorant, you name it.
