Mostly when you get poisoned by mercury is because you inhaled some of it, as far as I know.
It can’t really get through your skin. However, if you have any laceration or opening, as small as they may seem, you’ll have big problems if you touch mercury. That’s why it’s recommended to not come in contact with it. We always have some small cuts that we’re not aware of.
And the same goes for other liquids. They don’t really get absorbed through your skin.
