How does mercury get absorbed through the skin even though any other liquid doesn’t?

It doesn’t unless there is a lot of it on open pores. It normally has to be ingested. This knowledge was bestowed upon me by my year 7 science teacher who dipped his fingers in mercury and then licked them. He also burnt a hole through a table in the maths department with some low ph acid
