How does metabolism work?

657 views

So, me and my best friend have very different body types. We both were a bit chubby as kids, and have grown out of it. About 2 years ago we were aprox. the same height and weight. Now she’s super skinny and I’m still chubby. We do work out together, do the same exercises, eat mostly the same (We mealprep together) and we have the same job that requires the same level of movement.

How come she’s super skinny and I’m chubby? I know its got something to do with metabolism, but how does that work exactly? How come one metabolism is faster than the other?

Interesting question, first of all metabolism refers to all the chemical processes in your body, so a faster metabolism mean a faster use of energy so need more food. If as you said you live in the same way of your friend, your metabolism could be slower for some reason:

-The saddest could be that a lot of people are born with a better metabolism;

-Drink more water (it could help your metabolism to get faster);

-Eat protein ([https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15507147/](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15507147/));

-Get good sleep;

– Genes definitely play a role in muscle size and your ability to grow muscles, both of which affect your metabolism;

And the last thing, metabolism is not only useful for lose weigh it also guarantee a good life, our brain have is own metabolism called “Brain metabolism”, that consume a lot of Glycogen, glycogen is the main body energetic resource, if it is too high it will be transformed in fat, so do a lot of mental activity will help your metabolism to get faster, and help you in a lot of other things
