how does more money mean winning a campaign in politics?

I understand you can advertise more, but that didn’t seem to work for Bloomberg. But it also seems like advertising doesn’t work in a country where people are straight ballot one way or the other.

It seems true for all levels, but especially true at the local level.

Obviously, it doesn’t guarantee winning, but without money you can’t do much. Can’t advertise; can’t pay for campaign staff; can’t pay for events; can’t pay for get-out-the-vote operations … can’t pay for further fund-raising.

Money is used for much more than advertising. Traveling, rallies, staff, gathering data, ect. Also advertising does work. Maybe not as much for certain demographics, or as it used to, and maybe not as much in presidential elections as local, but it still works.
