How does my gps know what road I’m on if I’m driving under an overpass or driving parallel underneath another road?

A car GPS assumes that you follow roads so when you drive in a location where roads intersect in multiple levels is just keep you on the same road.

If you would start the GPS at a location like that is would have trouble in determining where you are might pick the incorrect road. It would jump back to the correct when they diverge enough.

It extrapolates from previous data to predict what you’re doing. However, it can get confused in areas with lots of roads running close to the same direction.
