My mantis molted and has almost doubled in size – he’s gigantic! How does so much mantis fit into such a tiny molt!? I can’t understand it, please explain? TIA

It doesn’t fit. That’s why it’s molting. After the molt you will see an increase as the new shell is easy to stretch. Imagine a heavy set person in a button up that clearly doesn’t fit. That person is still wrapped in that shirt, but boy does their body wish it had a larger shirt.

so the outer layer of a newly shed bug is all soft and folded in on itself, and stretches out once freed from the molt before hardening into the shape of the new shell.
