How does so much mantis fit in a tiny molt?

My mantis molted and has almost doubled in size – he’s gigantic! How does so much mantis fit into such a tiny molt!? I can’t understand it, please explain? TIA

so the outer layer of a newly shed bug is all soft and folded in on itself, and stretches out once freed from the molt before hardening into the shape of the new shell.
