2. Animals eat the plants
3. The animals die and are fossilised, or plants die and are fossilised.
4. They become rocks, which are part of the earth’s crust.
5. Either that crust is already oceanic crust, or rocks are washed into the sea as pebbles and small rock particles by rivers.
6. The oceanic crust is subducted and becomes part of the mantle, along with all that CO2.

There is another stage, where volcanoes spew CO2 out into the atmosphere again. Everything goes around in cycles eventually.
