We don’t know for certain.

Honestly, I wanted to respond to your question with “no, studies have shown no correlation between consuming sugars and acne”. Thankfully, I always refresh myself with studies concerning people’s questions so I stumbled upon this – there’s no clear answer.

American academy of dermatology states that one study showed that eating food with a high glycemic index (that’s food that spikes your blood sugar such as white bread, corn flakes, milkshakes, fries, pastries etc) can increase acne breakout by 10%.
The mechanism of action is that high blood sugar promotes inflamtion and increased production of sebum. These two combined can clog your pores and make you breakout.

However in the same article they mention a few studies that failed to show the same relationship, questioning the validity of prior research. AAD concludes with the infamous “more research needs to be done.”
