Through my own research I have learned what the Post Office Protocol is but I’m struggling to find any specifics. I am trying to find out the format of the addressing scheme and how it operates.

POP3 is defined in RFC 1939. I’m not sure what you are even referring to by “addressing scheme”. Your email is held on the POP server, but the server doesn’t send email.
