How does the bull shark survive in both saltwater and freshwater like rivers and lakes?

I just read that the bull shark is considered the most dangerous shark to humans. They are aggressive and can live in both saltwater and freshwater and have been found miles up various rivers and lakes. Humans don’t expect sharks to be in the river so it takes longer to realize that there is an active shark roaming the rivers.

They function similarly to normal sharks in saltwater. In freshwater, they re-absorb salt through kidney and intestines to control the salt level in their body. So there’s a limit to how long they can survive in freshwater before they need to return to saltwater and stock up on salt again.
