how does the internet go around the whole world?

I have basic understanding of hardware. I get wifi, kind of… But like, shouldn’t there be cables in the ocean to connect our continents? But that’s so stupid. How is it done?

There are thousands of miles of fibre poetics cable under the oceans, it’s nothing new, there’s been telegraph cables under the ocean since like the 1800s
