how does the internet go around the whole world?

I have basic understanding of hardware. I get wifi, kind of… But like, shouldn’t there be cables in the ocean to connect our continents? But that’s so stupid. How is it done?

There are cables in the ocean that connect our continents. Like 380 cables, over 1.2 million kilometers (745,645 miles) long.
