Everything in you body and you brain is controlled by chemicals. Everything. Every thought, every sound you hear, everytime you need to pee …. everything.

Extreme anything changes the chemicals in the brain. It is an evolutionary thing that let’s us focus on the most pressing problem. If you are hungry but sustain a broken arm you wont think hey let’s swing by a restaurant before calling 911.

Your brain will recieve and manufacture chemicals to make the pain a more pressing concern and you hunger will be diminished in comparison.

There are also psychological reasons people dont eat when sad as a penance or in solidarity or to avoid the pleasure of eating to wallow in the sadness as well, but it is primarily chemicals.
