I believe it’s when a poison enters the bloodstream and the body’s immune system overacts, causing the blood vessels to dilate (open wider), resulting in a dangerous drop in blood pressure.

The term often refers to toxins released by staph infections, often bacteria buildup on feminine hygiene products. A more general term is septic shock.
