How does WhatsApp send “more secure” messages? Is that even true?

Think of it like this. You write a message and put it in a safe with a combination that has 40 digits. And mail it to your friend who is the only other person in the world who has that 40 digit combo. That is essentially what end to end encryption (what WhatsApp uses) is.

So your message when it’s traveling through cyber space as data is just an unreadable mess of letters, numbers, and symbols. If someone were to catch it, it would be impossible to even decode it. But you and your friends phone know the key so when it gets there it can decode it.

The key itself is rather interesting. I can explain how those encryption keys work if you’d like as well.
