How does your body know when a wound is fully healed and when to stop healing?

Not positive on the answer to what chemical signal is sent, but this is how my doctor explained what my psoriasis was doing, it just never stops ‘healing’ the damaged spot so you get a buildup of flaky dead skin cells as they’re frequently replaced with new ones.
