How fast do germs move? Does the 5 second rule have any validity?

Germs typically do not move very quickly on their own. But that doesn’t mean the 5 second rule is valid, any gems that directly impacted the food are stuck to it immediately.

Germs move very slowly. But they are every where all the time.

The 5 second rule doesn’t have any validity because as soon as a piece of food lands on the floor it has already made contact with the germs on the ground. And some of them have stuck to the food.

But the likelihood that there are dangerous germs in sufficient quantities to be dangerous is low. So you can probably eat food you drop.
