Vitamins are micronutrients, meaning your body only needs a small amount of them. Pharmaceutical companies just mix those nutrients into candy and that’s it.

Macronutrients are things you need a lot of. Things like fat, carbohydrates, proteins, etc. You couldn’t fit those into a tiny gummy.

First of all, not all gummies provide vitamins. Second thing to understand is that vitamins are real, physical molecules. The word “vitamin” comes from a Polish scientist who made a portmanteau of the words “vital” and “amine” (an amine is a special kind of chemical structure). He called them “vitamines” but the E was removed when they found that not all vitamins were amines.

Anyway, all of this is to say that vitamins have a defined chemical structure. That means that scientists can make them synthetically in large amounts (or extract them from a known source). Once you have all of the pure vitamins that you want in your product, you simply mix them together, add flavorings so it doesn’t taste bad, add gelatin, and boom: you have a gummy with vitamins.
