How has chiropractic care become trusted in mainstream medicine?

I’m a medical worker, and I’ve been trying to read about the history of chiropractice. It’s fascinating to me how the field was started as a spiritual practice. But with the background of chiropractic care being challenged by modern science, and spinal manipulation being disproven to have any benefits, how is chiro so mainstream today? It’s covered by health insurance, even though medical researchers are regularly publishing data that disproves the benefits. DISCLAIMER: IM NOT TRYING TO HATE ON ANYTHING, I’m genuinely interested in the history and how the practice became so mainstream with a somewhat unsteady foundation.

I was told I needed surgery for a herniated disc, bulging disc, and pinched nerve or I’d be in pain the rest of my life. I got chiropractic adjustments and did acupuncture instead. I got better without surgery. It’s hard to believe chiropractic care is hogwash when I could barely walk into the office without my husband mostly carrying me, and then being able to walk out unsupported after my initial adjustment. One appointment helped, many more took the pain away completely. Then I was pain free enough to do physical therapy to re strengthen my core. AMA has hated chiropractic care for a long time. Wilk Vs AMA case.

They will use an example of someone getting a wrong adjustment and losing vision, which is a rare occurrence, when the same is true for losing a patient on an operating table due to some form of negligence as well. Everything has risks.
