How is it that HIV is able to live on needles for several days but dies out fast on other surfaces?

Also, how is it that HIV can be transmitted via sex toys when it purportedly cannot be contracted from “other surfaces”? TIA.

Fluid residues. Most viruses die very, very fast when exposed, but can live for some time if they are immersed in their body fluid of choice.

Needles are essentially capillaries, blood will stay inside and will take a ling time to evaporate/longer to coagulate than when exposed to air.
