How is it that we have 8 billion people on Earth, and yet it seems like almost all businesses and services are short-staffed?

All of the 8 billion value their time and effort more than effort and time of others. Everyone wants to buy cheap and earn much. Businesses and services are short-staffed, because they are too cheap to hire more people, but if they get more expensive to pay bigger salary, people buy less and the extra staff becomes unnecessary. Still it is better to be short-staffed and have room for expansion than to be over-priced and deal with stagnation due to lack of customers.
