How is it the body adjusts to certain pains?

Like if you pour rubbing alcohol on a wound or if you dip a blistered foot into salt water, the pain is intense for a few moments and then goes away completely. Why is that?

Your nerves get desensitized. If your brain is getting an overload of “pain! pain! pain!” signal from a particular area, it can tell that nerve “hey I get the message, you’re distracting me so shut up for a sec so I can deal with it.” The nerve gets desensitized and “adjusts” to the pain.
