Ok so, liver metabolises alcohol into first acetaldehyde and then acetate. Acetate is then excreted in urine. Hangover is thought to be caused by accumulation of acetaldehyde in blood. Perhaps with age your liver function decreases so it may be slow to metabolise acetaldehyde into acetate and hangovers are more intense.
