How long – if at all – would a body buried on the moon take to decompose?

Could the bacteria within it survive the temps/lack of atmosphere etc?

Well, it’s really dry on the moon and the atmosphere is pretty close to a hard vacuum. So a body buried in the regolith (which is what you call dirt on the moon) is going to dry out quickly. This will kill all the bacteria. Since the regolith over it will protect it from solar UV radiation, it won’t change much until a meteor hits it and blasts it into powder.

It won’t decompose. It will dry out and turn into jerky from UV exposure but otherwise the process of decomposition cannot take place because there are no bacteria and organisms present on the moon and those on the body will die.
