if it was possible with with a device to slice the earth clean in two what would happen to the two halves?

You would have a very bad day. Now if there was no energy imparted onto the planet then the planet would continue sticking together. But with the Earth’s crust cut you would have a giant circular volcano around the world that would spew magma and gas. This release would be a global killer until the crust could scab over and life could restart.
