My fiance had her ovaries removed because of a genetic ovarian cancer risk, so her body doesn’t produce estrogen naturally. She’s too young for menopause, so she has transdermal estrogen patches. If the patch comes off early and she goes a few days without receiving the hormones, it has a noticeable effect on her mood, similar to what OP’s title describes.
Hormones are weird.
