In TV programs, when they refer to vehicles having 700 or 1000 hp, what are they refering to?

I know they refer to horsepower but I’m always confused and don’t know if they refer to HP or BHP.

it acts as a measure of the amount of pwoer the car’s engine can generate as force

1hp is roughly 750 watts and most regular cars meant for street use dont go over 150 Hp.
