Generally, no. You should always properly turn off a device before cutting off its power. If it has a power button or switch, you should turn it off first. Your refrigerator and microwave probably don’t have one, but your AC and TV do. This is especially important for modern Smart TV’s, as they’re essentially just computers with massive screens.
I’m gonna say in most cases, no. Especially with electronics, abruptly cutting out the power will cause parts to fail much easier. If it has moving parts like motors, then definitely no. It’s like if you were driving and wanted to stop the car, rather than hitting the brakes, you just shifted to park or turned off the car…it won’t immediately break it, but it’ll definitely do some damage.
