Is it really better to moisturize as soon as you get out of the shower or does it not make a difference?

Shower and soap remove the protective layer of grease from the skin. That grease is a barrier that stops the water in the skin from evaporating too quickly.

Moisturising creams don’t actually “add water” to the skin. They recreate and reinforce that protective layer to keep the skin healthily hydrated. As such, the sooner you use it, the less time your skin is exposed to excess evaporation.
