Your body rewards you for finding carbohydrates, especially foods that are dense in carbohydrates such as bread or pasta. Your tongue knows what the awesome carbohydrates are the moment the food touches the taste buds. The tongue will tell the brain, hey that’s a lot of carbohydrates, you should eat more of it. This is because carbohydrates will keep you alive, and your body would like to live for a while.

Carbohydrates are among the foods with high glycemic index. Foods with high glycemic index cause rapid spikes in blood sugar levels, which trigger a greater insulin response from pancreas. Abundance of insulin in blood quickly deprives it of sugar, which will cause you to feel hungry sooner, so the vicious cycle begins.

Foods with low glycemic index will trigger a calmer insulin response, therefore the blood sugar levels do not drop dramatically, which in turn will cause you feel satiated longer.

Iirc, certain sugars mess with the bodies ability to feel full. Basically you’re getting enough energy but your stomach is still saying it isn’t full. This hinders the body’s ability to self regulate hunger/feeling full.

To put simply there are simple carbs (sugar) and complex carbs (fiber). Simple carbs (white bread, white rice, white noodles) are more easily broken down and takes less time for your body to digest hence you get hungry quickly. Conversely complex carbs (whole wheat bread, sweet potatoes) takes longer to break down and digest hence will take longer for you to get hungry!
