Is it true that in general certain types of carbohydrate can cause you to feel more hungry and if so is there an underlying theory as to why this occurs?

To put simply there are simple carbs (sugar) and complex carbs (fiber). Simple carbs (white bread, white rice, white noodles) are more easily broken down and takes less time for your body to digest hence you get hungry quickly. Conversely complex carbs (whole wheat bread, sweet potatoes) takes longer to break down and digest hence will take longer for you to get hungry!
