Carbohydrates are among the foods with high glycemic index. Foods with high glycemic index cause rapid spikes in blood sugar levels, which trigger a greater insulin response from pancreas. Abundance of insulin in blood quickly deprives it of sugar, which will cause you to feel hungry sooner, so the vicious cycle begins.

Foods with low glycemic index will trigger a calmer insulin response, therefore the blood sugar levels do not drop dramatically, which in turn will cause you feel satiated longer.
