is marijuana actually bad for you?

They say that it causes brain damage, this that and the next. Does it really just boil down to ‘lungs only supposed to breathe air’

” I used to get high just to get high. Now I get high just to get by”.
song lyrics that hit home.

I have enjoyed a dry cocktail on and off since my mid 20’s. I have recently been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Looking back I know it has helped with my anxiety and helped me manage out of control moods. It’s like a nice reset. I had plenty of days when I thought I couldn’t go on but knew if I made it to the end of the day I could relax. I have struggled with suicidal ideation and it is a reason I am still alive. I guess it’s a way of self medicating when my moods are swinging back and forth. I’ve been on antidepressants for depression and anxiety for years. Prescribed medication can also do more harm than good. I was on a med for depression and been on just about every antidepressant. They all have side effects and many of them can cause difficulties with memory and other issues. When I was diagnosed with BP I was told the meds I was taking for depression can actually induce mania in someone with bipolar disorder.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t solve your problems. It can mask them. It doesn’t give me the positive feelings I used to have when I smoked. I still have told myself that it helps when it really doesn’t anymore. I just ruminate on my negative thoughts.

Alcohol throws me off way more than weed does. Weed is nice every so often but my self medication is not helping so I recently stopped.

It you need it to get through your day it’s really not a marijuana/ substance question. The question should be “what thoughts am I consumed by that I can’t handle on my own ?”. Making life changes, good habits and therapy are your best options.

It can be enjoyable recreationally now and then. People will use it whether it’s legal or not. I know plenty of people who enjoy it and it don’t have the problems I do.
