Well, there’s been 50+ years of studies, mostly coming out of Europe, that demonstrate that once your brain reaches a critical mass of THC that if you have a latent or dormant psychotic disorder, it can be woken up. So there’s that. It also can have boomerang effects—if you smoke to get sleep, for example, you can reach a point where it prevents you from sleeping. Or if you smoke to calm down, it can boomerang into paranoia. It can also hamper libido—some dudes can smoke so much they can’t get it up reliably. Final note, if you are an adolescent and you smoke AND you’re on SSRI’s for depression, it can increase suicidal ideation.
