is there a finite number of unique songs able to be created in each genre?

And if so, how close are we to reaching the limit?

Technically yes, practically no

Let’s make some pretty conservative assumptions and it’ll be clear why it doesn’t matter

Let’s say for a given song in a genre there are a limited number of notes that can follow each one, say 4(this is probably a lot higher). Each song gets to be 60 notes long(again, really a lot higher). That means that there are potentially 4^60, or 2^120 potential song options in each genre.

There are an estimated 2^112 – 2^118 atoms in the universe. There are wayyy more potential song combinations than atoms in the universe

Playing through 60 note combos at a lightning fast rate of a million per second would take you 10^12 ages of the universe to get through them all. That’s a number soo large you can’t possible fathom it
