metabolism speed

So I understand metabolism at a five year old level, and that things like intake, exercise, sleep and medication can all affect it.

My question is: is it more affected by the volume or by the calories? If I eat massive servings of celery (not likely) will my body still think I’m starving? What about slowly digesting foods? I’ve been known to have a chia smoothie for breakfast and have no appetite for the rest of the day, but probably only have 500 calories in the drink

Both the volume and caloric content of the food you consume affect metabolism, but in different ways. High-volume, low-calorie foods can help with satiety but may not significantly boost your metabolism if they don’t provide enough calories.
