On the road, why do we have speed bumps instead of speed grooves?

1. It’s easier to make a bump than make a groove.
2. It’s easier to repair a bump then repair a groove.
3. Grooves fill with debris, water, and/or ice
4. It’s easy to fill in a groove, hard to remove a bump.
5. Generally the front of the vehicle going down is not a good thing, the front is likely to hit the ground and do damage to the front bumper.
Several reasons:
* It’s easier to add a bump on top of an existing road surface than it is to dig a groove into one.
* Bumps do not retain water, and so do not suffer damage associated with it (e.g. freezing).
* Bumps are more visible at a distance than grooves.
