I’m just trying to wrap my head around this. I understand what Lenz’s law is but I don’t understand how it applies to the rotating armature of a drill

Lenz’s law is about the direction of a magnetic field created by induction.

Induction means that a changing magnetic field creates a “whirl” of electrical field and vice versa. A declining magnetic field causes a clockwise electrical field around it, a growing one counterclockwise. (Or inversely a whirling electrical field makes a magnetic field grow in the direction from wich it’s seen as counterclockwise)

Since electrical drills use induction based drives this effect will decide the direction of the drill spinning. How exactly is a bit hard to explain without making a few sketches.
